Age limit for Irish and Canadian applicants for Working Holiday Visas raised to 35

New regulations raised the upper age limit from 30 to 35 (inclusive) for applicants from Canada and the Republic of Ireland for the Working Holiday Visa (Subclass 417). The change came into effect on 1 November 2018.

Likewise, the age limit for working holidays to Ireland and Canada was raised from 30 to 35 for Australians. The reciprocal arrangement reflects renewed efforts to strengthen ties between the countries.

“Both Canada and Ireland have been part of Australia's Working Holiday Maker program since it began in 1975 so it is fitting that they are the first countries to become eligible for the extended age range,” Immigration Minister David Coleman said. For other eligible countries, the age limit remains at 30 years.

The WHV allows young people to have an extended holiday in Australia while working to fund their trip. It is possible to apply for a second Working Holiday visa if you meet certain eligibility criteria.

Currently, 90% of applications are processed within 29 days. The WHV is a convenient option for those who want to travel in Australia for longer periods of time, without necessarily having the upfront funds to do so.
