ENS proposed changes

ENS proposed changes will now come into effect on 2 April 2005. For some 457 visa holders, the changes will mean a smoother transition to a permanent visa. However, the changes will also affect eligibility for others and these people should lodge their applications prior to 2 April 2005. Please contact our office should you wish to discuss your eligibility.

(Tip: 457 visa holders and their employers should assess permanent residence options for these people before April 2005 changes.)

Medical Practitioners and Nurses - New Visa Arrangements

Overseas medical practitioners currently are required to apply for Temporary Medical Practitioner visa (subclass 422) which requires sponsorship on a case by case basis.

From April 2005, medical practitioners will also be able to apply for a Business Long Stay visa (subclass 457). The benefits of this visa are:

  • availability of e-lodgement facility - a faster process
  • one sponsorship agreement will cover all overseas employee needs, including medical practitioners, nurses and other professional staff.

(Tip: medical profession employers should assess their current sponsorship arrangements to take advantage of these changes.)
