Global Talent Visa for skilled tech professionals and graduates

Key takeaways:
  • The Global Talent Visa Program allows highly skilled professionals in 7 key technology industries to work and live permanently in Australia.
  • Established professionals in their field and exceptionally talented graduates can apply.
  • Benefits include fast-tracked visa processing and permanent residency, no Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy, and access to Medicare.
  • We’ve successfully guided several clients through the 2-step application process. This includes proving international recognition in a relevant field and the ability to attract an annual salary of AUD153,600 or more.

A shortage of talent in key tech sectors and a recent push by the Australian government to attract highly skilled workers as part of the nation’s post-COVID economic recovery have created the perfect conditions for qualified individuals to have their Australian permanent residency fast tracked.

Over the past few months, we’ve helped clients establish themselves in Australia through the Global Talent Visa Program, also known as the Global Talent Independent (GTI) Program. Applicants must prove they are internationally recognised with a record of outstanding achievements in one of the following target sectors:

  • AgTech
  • Space and Advanced Manufacturing
  • FinTech
  • Energy and Mining Technology
  • MedTech
  • Cyber Security
  • Quantum Information, Advanced Digital, Data Science and ICT

They generally must also be able to attract a salary of AUD153,600 a year or more. A recent PhD or Masters graduate may also qualify under the program, as long as they can demonstrate exceptional talent in one of the above fields.

The Global Talent Visa Program is attractive for many reasons: Visas are processed quickly, employers do not need to pay the Skilling Australians Fund (SAF) levy, and permanent residency is granted on the same day as the visa grant. Visa holders can also access Medicare, as well as sponsor family members to come to Australia.

Applicants can expect to go through a 2-step process:

  1. Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI)
  2. Apply for a Distinguished Talent visa

In addition to submitting a decision-ready application (ie. one that contains all the required supporting documents, forms and fees), applicants can maximise their chances of a successful visa grant by producing comprehensive evidence of exceptional achievements in relation to their professional roles, patents, industry reputation, awards, or media publicity.

Our migration experts can make the process of getting your Global Talent Visa efficient and stress-free.
