Increased migration
and citizenship fees
from 1 July 2025

Migration and citizenship application fees rose across multiple categories from 1 July 2025.

Visa Application Charge (VAC) increases

Most visa application charges have increased by 3% in line with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). Employers and visa applicants must factor in these higher fees when budgeting for their sponsorship or migration plans (see table below for new fees for popular visa categories).

Student visa fee significantly increased above CPI

Student (Subclass 500) and Student Guardian (Subclass 590) visa applications have seen the first instalment of the Visa Application Charge increase from $1,600 to $2,000 - a 25% increase above the standard CPI adjustment.

Why the additional increase? This increase supports the Government's election commitment to strengthen the integrity and sustainability of the student visa program and the international education sector.

Exemptions: Pacific Island and Timor-Leste applicants retain access to concessional VACs and are not subject to this student visa fee increase

Visas affected include:

  • Subclass 494 (Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional) visa nominations
  • Subclass 187 (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) visa nominations
  • Subclass 482 (Temporary Skill Shortage) visa nominations lodged prior to 7 December 2024
  • Subclass 186 (Employer Nomination Scheme) visa nominations lodged prior to 7 December 2024
